On Gear Live: 2024 Nissan Z Nismo Review

Jessica SimpsonIt should come as no surprise that Nick Lachey, the less successful half of MTV’s Newlyweds, is seeking further money and property from his estranged wife, pop sensation Jessica Simpson. After years of using Jessica as a meal ticket, can’t Nick step away with some dignity? Take some advice, Nick: get some pride. And a job.

The former 98 Degrees singer is seeking spousal support and various bling from his wife of three years, Jessica Simpson, report news sources. They’ve been living separately since December.

Lachey, 32, and Simpson, 25, met when she was promoting her debut album while touring with Lachey’s boy band 98 Degrees. Although the two had their niche fans, they both shot to unforeseen fame after wedding in October 2002 when MTV released the hit reality show “Newlyweds.”

Simpson’s career quickly eclipsed Lachey’s thanks to her pricelessly air-headed comments on “Newlyweds,” her golf swing-inhibiting assets and her Daisy Dukes-wearing figure in “The Dukes of Hazzard” movie. Their three-year relationship has been marked by frequent estrangement, public bickering and rumors of infidelity. The day before Thanksgiving 2005, they announced they were splitting.

HouseTelevision series often, inexplicably, switch nights or showcase ‘special’ episodes on evenings other than when they are scheduled to air. Normally, this wouldn’t merit a mention. But normally, it’s not one of the best shows on TV doing it.

House M.D. will air tonight at 8pm, rather than in its usual time slot of Tuesday at 9pm. The show features some of the best writing and acting on television, successfully walking the tightrope each week between humor and heartbreak. Tonight’s episode features a teen supermodel whose heroin addiction may or may not be her biggest health problem. The case parallels House’s own downward spiral into drug addiction, brilliantly explored last week when the good doc’s actions suggested he was moving beyond pain medication into something far more sinister. Such a special show deserves a special mention. Be sure to tune in.

Battlestar GallacticaThe fabulous Battlestar Galactica made it onto our 2005 Best of TV list. Now, the show is topping itself with a mega 90-minute season finale. It’s big. It’s brave. It’s Battlestar. Tune in on March 10th, or we’ll send Baltar after you.

Veronica Mars CWIn all corporate mergers, there are gains; there are losses. It’s no different in television. The blend of UPN and the WB into the new channel ‘the CW’ has inevitably shaken things up a bit. Fans may lose some of their favorite shows, as two channels become one. Is your show on the list?

According to a January 26 report on zap2it.com, fans of Tyra Banks and her cadre of pouty young wannabes can relax: America’s Next Top Model will continue strutting its stuff on the new network. The show has been enjoying its highest ratings this season, and it had already been green-lighted for another two cycles by UPN before the merger was announced. Also probable survivors: Smallville, Everybody Hates Chris, and Gilmore Girls.

Entertainment Weekly reports that some nervous show-runners haven’t heard a definite answer as to their fate. Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas told the magazine that although UPN hasn’t made any official announcement, “the buzz is that we are one they plan on keeping.” Less optimistic was Greg Berlanti at the WB’s Everwood, who said “we’re fighting for our life.”

Kevin SmithKevin Smith, writer and director of such zany, off-color flicks as Clerks and Mallrats, has a secret addiction: television. And it’s not to the shows you may think. Understandably, he loves My Name Is Earl, and was responsible for most of Jason Lee’s employment before the actor was cast as Earl. But did you know Smith also loves Degrassi: The Next Generation so much, he begged to direct an episode? And he’s such a fan of Veronica Mars that he finagled a cameo on the show? Isn’t it wonderful how television can bring out all sides in people?

Although he’s a film guy, television seems to be Smith’s not-so-secret weakness. As fans know, the erstwhile Silent Bob is such devotee of “Degrassi: The Next Generation” that he contact the producers about possibly directing an episode. Told that his absence of Canadian citizenship would keep him from going behind the camera, he gladly agreed to a multi-episode acting gig playing himself. A similar sense of appreciation led Smith to a cameo on “Veronica Mars.”

DescriptionNestled within the most desired of all age demographics, college students should certainly have a say in which television shows are winners, and which are the stinkers. So why did it take so long for Nielsen Media Research to acknowledge this? This data-collection corporation is responsible for the ratings placement of your favorite shows, and usually provides the ammunition to either renew a series, or cancel it. Now college students have the power. How fun will that be?

Enjoy it, students, but maybe you could bypass those endless Real World/Road Rules obstacle course competition shows, just for us? We’re sick of seeing forty-year-olds from the first season engage in drunken brawls.

Thanks!

Seeing RedJeff “The Fly” Goldblum will star in a new NBC crime drama series, Seeing Red. Technically, the actor is still in negotiations, but who wouldn’t do whatever necessary to hire Jeff Goldblum? Goldblum will star as a troubled (is there any other kind on TV?) cop who can communicate with dead people. Talking to dead people has become quite the trend in television lately.

Most famous for his film roles in hits such as The Fly and Jurassic Park, Goldblum’s intense presence should light up the small screen. We’ll certainly be tuning in.

Anne Heche Men in TreesActress, girlfriend of famous actors/actresses…Anne Heche has earned some celebrity status, although what she is most famous for is her widely publicized, very strange breakdown when she declared that she was an alien from another planet. In a truly ironic twist, Anne has been cast as a psychologist in ABC’s new drama, Men In Trees. In the show, Anne’s character moves to Alaska after finding out her husband has been unfaithful, and finds herself surrounded by rugged wilderness and rugged men alike.

Perhaps it will be entertaining. It is said that crazy people make the best therapists…

FOX Unan1mousIt is said that the simplest ideas are often the best ones. If that’s the case, FOX’s newest reality show, Unan1mous, should be a smash hit. With the advantage of an American Idol lead-in, the show will center on 9 people who are locked in a bunker, and cannot come out until they all agree on which contestant should win a cash prize.

Yikes! How long will it take?

The premise of “Unan1mous” is pretty simple. Nine people are shuttered inside a bunker and told to debate among themselves who should receive a prize of $1.5 million. They can’t leave, however, until they reach a, you guessed it, unanimous decision on who that should be.

If their first vote is not unanimous, however, the prize starts to get smaller and keeps dropping until the group does come to an unopposed decision. Theoretically, the winner could walk out with nothing.

Some contestants will be eliminated from contention for the prize as the game wears on, but they’ll have to stay in the bunker with the rest of the players and will continue to cast votes on who should win.
